Notice for unpaid rent

14 days19 V.S.A. 4467(a)

For unpaid rent, the end date in the notice must be at least 14 days after the tenant receives it. Paying the rent owed stops the termination.

Many cities and counties add their own rules, such as rent stabilization or longer notice periods, and a lease can give a tenant more protection than the law requires. Check your local housing office or a legal aid group before you act.
